Instruments and Control Software
Emerald BioSystems offers a family of sophisticated liquid handling instruments and Crystal Miner™ database software for the design, production, and handling of crystallization and formulation experiments. The Matrix Maker™ instrument enables the accurate and speedy preparation of liquid formulation sets from up to 60 different stock solutions. The Drop Maker™ device handles small volumes of liquids for the efficient set up of small volume crystallization experiments. The Crystal Monitor™ automated crystallization plate imaging workstation, and CrysTEL™ automated plate hotel storage systems allow efficient imaging and SQL database management of crystallization experiments. The new Protein Maker™ device allows the simultaneous parallel purification of 24 proteins.
Synthetic Gene Design Software
The popular Gene Composer™ software offered by Emerald BioSystems is a first in class database tool for the information-rich design of expression-optimized synthetic gene constructs. This SQL database software system is an effective protein engineering tool that allows users to design codon optimized synthetic gene constructs for improved protein expression and crystallization. The software also plans out the oligonucleotide building blocks needed to construct synthetic genes by PCR methods.
Reagent Kits and Plasticware
The Emerald BioSystems consumable product line includes a series of unique and patented reagent kits and plasticware devices for protein crystal growth. These products were created to overcome specific research obstacles and are validated through use by Emerald’s affiliated research companies. Reagent kits include pre-formulated crystal growth screens and optimization additives to maximize crystal growth. Emerald BioSystems also produces custom screens and formulations based upon customer specifications. The plasticware offered by Emerald includes several crystallization plates with unique clover-shaped wells providing proprietary configurations to maximize efficiency and conservation of crystallization solutions.
